One thing I've learned is that most people proposing aren't worried about whether their partner will say yes—they're worried about getting everything right.

The Best Places to Propose in Taipei

1. Huian Park


Huian Park is one of Taipei's hidden gems.



Compared to more famous locations, it offers a private and calm environment with a stunning view of Taipei 101. The park's greenery and peaceful atmosphere make it ideal for couples who prefer something relaxed, intimate, and unmistakably Taipei. There's also the beautiful Takemura Izakaya (Taipei 101 Alley) that's just a 10 minute walk away, perfect for couple photos after the proposal.

2. Moon Elder Viewpoint (月下老人觀景台)


If I had to recommend one location for a romantic proposal in Taipei, Moon Elder Viewpoint would be near the top of the list.


Located near Zhinan Temple Gondola Station, this scenic viewpoint overlooks Taipei and the surrounding mountains. As the sun sets, the city lights slowly begin to appear beneath you, creating an atmosphere that feels surprisingly private despite being so close to the city.



The location also carries symbolic meaning. The Moon Elder (月下老人) is traditionally known as the deity of love and relationships, making it a fitting place to begin a new chapter together.

3. Jiufen Old Street


Few places in Taiwan feel as cinematic as Jiufen.


The narrow lantern-lined streets, ocean views, and nostalgic atmosphere create a setting that feels straight out of a movie. While Jiufen can be busy, there are several quieter viewpoints and side streets where you can create a more intimate moment away from the crowds.


For couples who love travel, culture, and storytelling, Jiufen can make for an incredibly memorable proposal location.

4. Taipei Botanical Gardens


The Botanical Garden offers one of the most peaceful settings in central Taipei.


Lush greenery, quiet paths, and beautiful natural light make it an excellent choice for couples who enjoy spending time outdoors. It feels removed from the city's fast pace while remaining easy to access.

Flowers have become a proposal cliché for a reason—they work.


Taipei Rose Garden offers beautiful seasonal blooms, elegant pathways, and plenty of photo opportunities. The environment naturally feels romantic without requiring elaborate decorations.

Places I Usually Don't Recommend

Crowded Tourist Hotspots


Many people assume they should propose at the most famous location possible.

In reality, crowded locations often create unnecessary stress. You'll be worrying about strangers walking into the frame, unexpected interruptions, and whether your partner feels comfortable being the center of attention.

A proposal should feel like it's about the two of you—not the crowd around you.


Restaurants


This surprises a lot of people.

Restaurant proposals sound romantic in theory, but in practice they can be difficult.

The lighting is often poor for photos, staff coordination can be unpredictable, and once the proposal begins, you may feel rushed and in the spotlight because of all the other guests.

Most importantly, restaurants rarely provide the emotional impact that a meaningful location can.



Save the restaurant for the celebration, not the proposal.

Preparations Before the Proposal

Prepare What You Want to Say


You don't need a perfect speech.

You don't need to memorize paragraphs.

But you should have a few key points prepared:

  • What you love about her
  • A meaningful memory together
  • Why you want to spend your life with her
  • Why today matters

The most memorable proposal speeches aren't polished. They're personal.


Make It About Your Story


The best proposals reflect the relationship itself.

Think about:

Your first date

A shared hobby

An inside joke

A meaningful location

A challenge you've overcome together

These details are what transform a proposal from beautiful into unforgettable.



Make Sure Her Nails Are Done


This may sound small, but trust me.

One of the first things people do after getting engaged is take photos of the ring.

If your partner enjoys having her nails done, consider subtly encouraging a manicure/nail appointment beforehand.

Many future fiancées end up wishing they had known.

Things to Remember on the Day

1. SLOW DOWN


Most people rush because they're nervous.

The walk to the proposal location doesn't need to be rushed.

The conversation doesn't need to be rushed.

The proposal itself doesn't need to be rushed.

Take your time and allow yourself to experience the moment.


2. Put Your Bags Down First


This sounds obvious, but it happens surprisingly often.

Before proposing, put down your backpack, shopping bags, camera bag, umbrella, or anything else you're carrying.

It creates cleaner photos and allows you to focus entirely on your partner.


3. Know Which Side She Prefers


If your partner has a preferred side for photos, remember it.

Positioning can make a surprising difference in how comfortable and confident someone feels during photographs.

A little preparation goes a long way.


4. Stay Present


Your proposal doesn't need to be perfect.

There may be unexpected weather.

There may be strangers nearby.

You might forget part of your speech.

None of those things matter nearly as much as you think they do.

Years from now, neither of you will remember the tiny imperfections.

You'll remember how you felt.
